An air conditioning service is recommended every two years. Over a period of time it's possible for the gas in the system to deplete. When the system loses gas it becomes less efficient which leads to increased fuel consumption, and could lead to possible repairs. During the service our technician will recover the gas in the system, then evacuated and charge the system with gas, oil, and UV dye. We use UV dye in the system to help indicate where possible leaks might be located if they were to occur, and oil is used to lubricate the internals of the system. Once the system is fully charged with gas we are able to fully check the performance of the system and its components such as the compressor and the air con condenser.

Air conditioning service takes up to an hour and can be done while you wait.

You never know what's around the corner and when you might need to stop quickly and safely. For this reason, it's essential to have your braking system checked regularly by professionals. If you are unsure about the condition of your brakes, our friendly, expert technicians will check your braking system to identify any issues and help you stay safe on the road.

Brake checks can identify a problem before it begins to have an impact on your braking efficiency, therefore providing an opportunity to restore the effectiveness of your vehicle's brakes to its intended operating performance. The effects of a sudden brake failure can be devastating and in the event of an accident attributed to faulty brakes, the consequences of not maintaining an effective braking system could result in prosecution. Your vehicle will also fail its MOT test if your braking system does not meet required standards to allow your vehicle to come to an efficient stop.

Our brake specialists are fully trained and committed to maintaining your brakes in an expert and cost-effective manner. We recommend that your vehicle's braking system is checked at least twice a year.

Does your vehicle suffer from any of the following? Difficulty in engaging gears or inability to engage gear at all, consistent crunching noise, juddering when pulling away from a stationary position, increased engine RPM when throttle pedal is depressed, but vehicle speed does not increase as it would normally or a pronounced burning smell? This indicates it is time to get the clutch looked over by a professional. Clutches tend to suffer from wear and tear, so it is important that you have yours checked over by a qualified and experienced technician from Barry’s Garage. We will supply and fit your clutch at a competitive price to make sure you do not risk damaging your gearbox or compromise your safety.

Are warning lights displayed on your dashboard? It is important you get your car serviced as soon as possible, not only for your own safety but also the safety of other road users. Our engine diagnostics find the root of the problem quickly so you can get back on the road as soon as possible. An engine diagnostic check looks at the car's Engine Control Unit (ECU). Each system is scanned, allowing us to identify problems and error codes. We can then let you know which repairs are necessary. At Barry's Garage we use state-of-art diagnostic equipment including Snap-On Verus Pro and Verus Dio, Autologic Blue Box and Launchpad X431 Pad II.

A modern car is full of electronics and electrical components and every now and again something may fail. Maybe the electric windows have stopped working, maybe it's the wiper motor, the rear window heater, the seat warmers, the car radio, one of the loudspeakers, a bulb in the headlights, the fog lights, the tow bar plug or the electric sun roof. Whatever is wrong, it usually requires repair, replacement or a diagnostics check to see whether a fuse has blown or whether the problem goes deeper.

Your car’s exhaust pipes serves a number of purposes, but it needs to be in good condition and working well for you to get the best fuel economy possible and reduce the CO2 emissions produced by your car. Defective exhausts can affect noise levels, safety, engine performance and fuel consumption. In severe cases they can result in an MOT failure and may even leave you liable for penalty points on your licence.

For that reason it’s important to check your exhaust pipe for physical damage at least once every 6 000 miles, or once a year - whichever comes first. Exhaust checks are a part of our Full Service and a MOT Test, but if you’re in any doubt about your exhaust system’s condition, visit us at Barry’s Garage and our mechanics will be happy to offer their professional opinion.

The MOT test (Ministry of Transport, or simply MOT) is an annual test of vehicle safety, roadworthiness aspects and exhaust emissions required in Great Britain for most vehicles over three years old used on any way defined as a road in the Road Traffic Act 1988. The MOT test covers the following aspects: lighting and signalling equipment, steering (including suspension), brakes, tyres and wheels, seat belts, exhaust, fuel and emissions, driver's view of the road and finally body, structure and general items, which includes body and components such as spoilers, bumpers and mirror housings.

Please note: The MOT test checks that your vehicle complies with the minimum standards required for lawful use on the road. The MOT test is not a substitute for proper and regular servicing. Passing the MOT test does not mean that your vehicle will remain safe for the following 12 months. All vehicles need proper and regular servicing irrespective of the MOT test.

Regular car servicing is one of the simplest and most effective ways to ensure that you get consistent reliability for your car. A good service history can also help maintain your car’s resale value and reduce running costs by making sure that your engine is running smoothly and preventing future damage. At Barry’s Garage we provide the following services:

This service is recommended every 6 months or 6,000 miles - depending on which comes first. It is ideal for vehicles used for short, mainly urban journeys or for those who need to service their vehicles more regularly due to doing higher mileage more regularly. This service includes engine oil and oil filter change, which helps to make sure that important components in your car’s engine your car’s engine can move freely. Old oil can restrict movement of these parts and over time cause damage. Additionally it includes replacement of your air filter, check and top up fluids and vehicle check, which is detailed in our checklist mentioned below.

Full Service

This service is recommended every 12 months or 12,000 miles - depending on which comes first. Full service includes all the checks and fluid changes of a interim service and adds diagnostics, spark plugs change and a change of fuel and pollen filters. Defective suspension and steering systems can compromise your safety and control of your vehicle. There are many vital components that are linked with your suspension, including your steering wheel, shock absorbers, coil springs and track rod ends. If your suspension is defective, it will affect the way in which your vehicle drives and feels on the road. Your wheels may have a lesser grip on the road , your steering could become misaligned and feel heavy when turning corners, and your vehicle may bounce when braking - all of which effectively gives you less control over your vehicle.

Have your suspension checked at Barry’s Garage and we will ensure that your vehicle is suitable and safe for the roads, checking all of the vital components of your suspension. We also offer front wheel tracking and four wheel laser alignment by appointment.

We can supply and fit all types of car and van tyres from leading manufacturers including Pirelli, Michelin, Goodyear, Continental and Bridgestone, but we also supply Quality Budget brand. If you are not sure of the best car tyre for your application just call us up with your car make, model and type of driving such as mainly town & city or mainly motorway and we will give you our professional advice.

At Barry's Garage we also offer welding service if you car has failed it's MOT test on excessive corrosion in a 'prescribed area' - within 30 cms of certain components, e.g. brakes, steering, suspension, seat belt mountings etc.
